[Daddys birth story so thankful for this man taking notes while everything was happening. By the time I got to write down my Calvin's birth story everything was a blur..]

Well Good Morning Cranky Pants,
Well it is about 9:30am here at the Pavilion here at Providence. Your mother and I have been here for about 28 hours now. I can not believe how fast time flies. Mommy was scheduled to be induced on 6/10/12 at 6am. We really did not want to get induced and wanted to go natural. We know that with the potocin it make it a lot more difficult to go natural. But luckily, the night before (6/9/12) at about 9pm we had the grandparents over for my birthday. As soon as they left she was up all night timing her strong contractions. I was able to get about 3 hours of sleep that night and your mother woke me up to start packing up the last of our belongings for our trip. We arrived here at about 5:30am to check in. The hospital just started a new system called EPIX and it took FOREVER just to get checked in. Everyone was nice and kept on apologizing. Your mother was really upset and in a lot of pain. I could tell that she didn't want to deal with the new system and just wanted to deliver you already. Once checked in at triage they took us right to our room on the 3rd floor. It was room #319. We couldn't have been more excited to get settled in. The first nurse that we had was very nice and made us feel at home. She made sure that your mother was comfortable on the bed and hooked her up to be monitored. She only stayed for about 30 minutes then new nurse Andrea arrived. She was also great with helping your mother through this painful time. At the time her contractions were about 4-5 minutes apart. When the midwife came in to check her she was about 4cm and 80% thinned out. The contractions were very strong and your mother took some medication to help her with the pain. That seemed to work for an hour or so but didn't do much after. The pain was so bad that we decided to go with the epidural. Until the anesthesiologists showed up the nurse gave your mother another shot to help her through this process. It was about 1pm when they showed up and your aunt Shana had to leave the room. They would only allow one person to be in the room at the time. They made your mother sit on the bed and faec the bathroom. I was asked to sit in a chair in front of her and face her. The anesthesiologists were also complaining about the new system and all of the upgrades that had happened. The 2 guys looked like they were in their early to mid 30's and seemed to know what they were doing. I felt comfortable trusting them with this crazy shot. When they stuck your mother with the needled i could not look at her as she was trying to take all the pain in. I don't think that i would have been ever to go through what she just did and the day was not even done yet. Once they got the epidural flowing the midwife checked out your mother and she was at about 5cm and mostly all thinned out. They decided to bring in the potocin in also now that your mother was drugged up and felling a little bit better about her self. As all this was happening i was siting either on the futon couch that they had back her or the rocking chair and thinking about how much women have to go through in order to give life to another human. I was so humbled and proud of mommy for being able to go through what she has to do in order to bring this little miracle into the world. I also started watching a new series on the laptop called Game of Thrones. I really like it because its about knights/castles/dragons and all that good stuff. But it is rated M so if you do decide to watch it you will have to wait until you are old enough. At around 4pm they had checked your mother again and this time she was at 7cm. That meant that we were making progress and that soon enough we would be able to see this little miracle. Also, i forgot to mention that we did not know if you would be a boy or a girl. I am so proud of mommy and myself for being able to go through the whole pregnancy and not find out if it was a little Calvin or Angelica that she was hiding in her belly. Right before the delivery they had switched us out with another midwife yet again and this time it was with Kim. Kim was a nice older lady who was very thoughtful and was excited to help us get this baby out. At about 8pm Gretchen let us know that your mother was very close to being able to push. She was fully dilated and was waiting for just the rim to thin out. I was so nervous at the time and was feeling nauseous. I had to gather myself together and grab some water. I did not want your mother to see that i was nervous. At 8:30 was when all the action happened. Shana had the camera and was recording while Kim and I was supporting your mother on both sides and Gretchen was directly in front to observe what was happening. Your mother did an amazing job during the whole time and was able to get it done in an hour. They let us know that first time mothers usually take 1-3 hours. Gretchen let me pull you out with her. I got on my gloves and the first time i got my hands around your head I almost dropped it. You were so fragile and squishy that I freaked out. I gathered myself together and I was able to get you out and scream It's a boy as we placed you to your mother. I was so excited that I had tears of joy starting to fill my eyes. I could tell that your mother was relieved that you were finely here as you layer on her chest and shared an amazing boding moment. Within 5 minutes of coming out I was told that I could cut the cord. Gretchen let us know that the umbilical cord was hanging on by a thread to the sack during the while labor process. As soon as you were born the cord just plopped right off. She let us know that if it was to come out any time during the delivery that within a minute you would not have been breathing or alive. She told us that we had a guardian angel watching over you. (later on your grandmother Luba also told us that on her way her she had the urge to start praying in the spirit and what she was just saying is that "I pray that they baby will be alive and healthy") God truly blessed us with a miracle here and we really didn't know that all of this was going on until after. Thank God for this blessing. As I was staring at you while you were lying on mother's chest, I just could not believe how hairy you were.During one part of the pregnancy when you were almost out, Gretchen made a mohawk out of your hair. I was jealous, I can't even get a mohawk now with my hairline receding so far back. As you laid on mother's chest the midwife and nurse was trying to get everything out of momma and get the bleeding under control. It took them a while but they managed to get everything done. They then had to stick your mother with antibiotics because this had caused an infection or something of the sort because mother's temperature was up to 102. A bit later your grandparents and uncle Artyem showed up to check you out. Your grandfather Oleg couldn't make it but he will be here shortly this week to introduce himself. We all just couldn't get enough of how precious and amazing you were, and of all the hair that you had. SO MUCH HAIR!!! One of the nurses (we had 5 in the room) was able to get you all situated and measured and all that good stuff. You weighed in at 8.24oz and were 20 inches long. You were a healthy, beautiful, amazing baby. After all this me and your mother were ready to crash and get some sleep. Since friday I have been up and running on only 3 hours of sleep. But you had other plans for the night. Well that's a story for a different day. Welcome to this beautiful world Calvin. We are thankful and truly blessed for being able to share our life with you. Praise God.
